Business in Batley & Dewsbury

Batley and Dewsbury are neighbouring towns located in the heart of West Yorkshire. Both towns developed rapidly during the industrial era as centres for the "shoddy" industry, the recycling of old woollen items by mixing them with new wool and making them into heavy blankets and uniforms.

Many grand Victorian buildings rose out of the prosperity of this era and have provided the towns with a stunning backdrop of architecture which surrounds business and shopping areas.

Today the area is home to a range of businesses, including Fox’s Biscuits, Carlton Cards and PPG Architectural Coatings (formerly Sigma Kalon). The area has a higher than average young population, providing a strong local workforce. Both towns have great road and rail connections to nearby cities of Leeds and Manchester, as well as major motorway networks, and are becoming attractive places for businesses to locate.
