Minute molecules mean success for MSI
28 Feb 2010 - Savile town scientist, Ekbal Patel, makes machines that detect the make up of molecules so small that it is difficult to imagine them.
The company, Mass Spectrometry Instruments supplies customers all across the world and he is one of only two businesses to make one particular machine.
Mr Patel, at present manufactures the instruments in Lancashire but would ideally like to make them closer to home and says that Dewsbury has the potential to support a science park housing businesses similar to his own. MSI first occupied a single unit at Bretton Street and progressed to occupying 3 further units. In the last year they have been looking at other larger premises in the Dewsbury/Batley areas so that they can have their operations all under one roof.
A private landlord has offered an incentive to MSI to build a modern, purpose built unit on his land in Dewsbury with an offer of a long-term low rental lease. This new build is now complete and KMSI have vacated three of the four units in Bretton Street to date.
This new build has the right image for this innovative and specialist company.
All three companies trade worldwide. The majority of their business is export. One of the business owners lives in Dewsbury and is very passionate about retaining his business in the Dewsbury area and creating employment opportunities for local people.
