Dewsbury on Sea
Have a Whale of a Time at Dewsbury on Sea!
Join us in Dewsbury town centre on Saturday 23rd August between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. for a spectacular seaside occasion when Dewsbury will be transformed for a day of fun in the sun. Bring a child, a sense of humour and a knotted hankie. We will even have deck chairs on hand for exhausted parents.
Over the weekend, Foundry Street, adjacent to the famous Dewsbury Market, will be transformed into a seaside scene with tons of sand in place for major sandcastle making, along with Punch and Judy, circus skills workshops and traditional seaside activities plus entertainment and games from the Pulse Roadshow and beach entertainers. Enter the knobbly knees competition and build a perfect sandcastle to win prizes!
Come and see a huge whale, beached just for the day in front of Dewsbury Town Hall. The whale is guarded by a noisy Fish Wife. Brave swashbucklers will be led into its belly, a lavishly decorated seascape interior, to encounter a shipwrecked pirate with a treasure tale to tell and a real live Mermaid with a haunting siren's song and an intriguing secret.
Look out for the stilt walking Punch and Judy show, the pirates and many other seafaring swashbucklers who will be in town to entertain you. Visit the craft making stall, caricature artist, face painters and balloon modellers who will all be on hand in Market Place. Also keep your eyes peeled for the strolling seagulls and pirates, not to mention the Vikings in their Longboat!
The beach will also be in place on Sunday 24th August from 10.00 a.m. until 4.00 p.m.
