Dewsbury on Sea

Thousands flood into the town centre for Dewsbury on Sea 2009.

Dewsbury on Sea beach scene

Our annual Dewsbury on Sea event brought a huge tide of people into the town centre on Saturday 29th August to enjoy the seaside atmosphere.

The beach, in Foundry Street, next to Dewsbury's famous Market, was as popular as ever. The play workers from Surestart did an excellent job in looking after the thousands of kids who dived in to make sandcastles galore and bury their siblings and parents. Next to the beach Punch and Judy shows and circus skills workshops were also incredibly popular throughout the day.

The fairground outside the town hall brought colour and thrills while Pulse FM drew crowds in Market Place for their summer roadshow.

Kids munched on special Dewsbury on Sea rock and turbo charged grannies, living statues, and Blackpool Donkeys were just some of the surprises to keep everyone happy and smiling in the rare August sunshine.
