Excitement is building for next week's annual outdoor street show in Dewsbury. Spirit returns this year with a parade of giant fire-breathing dragons performed by the Spanish street theatre company, Sarruga who take their shows around the world.

The parade will start outside Dewsbury Town Hall at 7pm and the dragons and performers will follow a route through the town centre returning to the town hall for the finale. It is expected that the show will finish at 8pm.

Local businesses are also supporting Spirit; a number are staying open late on the night of the show and running special offers.

Travelling and parking information

Congestion

Over 5,000 people came to watch Spirit in Dewsbury last year, so we are expecting a lot of people to this year's show. With a number of roads in the town centre closed to traffic before, during and after the performance, we would recommend that you travel into town by public transport if possible or park away from the town centre and make your way to the Town Hall on foot.

Parking

There is free event parking available at Dewsbury Retail Park, Railway Street, Dewsbury, WF12 8EQ. With thanks to Euro Car Parks and the retailers, parking restrictions will be relaxed from 6pm.

Disabled Parking

There will be designated disabled parking at the Whitehall Way car park for blue badge holders with access via Northgate. Stewards will be on hand to direct drivers. On street parking around the Town Hall will be not be available on 26 February due to the works taking place at the Town Hall and the event itself.

Accessible viewing platform

The accessible viewing platform will be situated outside Brighthouse on Longcauseway.

Road closures

For public safety it is necessary for us to close certain roads. Town Hall Way will be closed from 8am until 11pm on Friday 26 February. Longcauseway, Crackenedge, Whitehall Way, Northgate and Market Place will be closed from 6pm until 9pm.

Public transport

Dewsbury Town Hall is a short walk from the bus station and train stations; it is located on the TransPennine Express rail line and so is easy to get to from Leeds, Huddersfield and Manchester as well as other nearby towns. Call Metro Line on 0113 245 7676 to plan your journey by road or rail.
