Celebrate the Launch of the Dewsbury Blue Plaque Trail
This is a free event and coffee and biscuits will be provided at the library from 10.00 a.m. followed by the talks at 10.30 a.m.
Members of the Dewsbury Matters Local History Group will be giving talks about some of the buildings in the library from 10.30 a.m. Large scale photographs and books of local historic interest will be on display for the public to enjoy.
At midday, Shahid Malik, MP will unveil the blue plaque on Dewsbury Town Hall and a guided walk will then follow at approximately 12.15 p.m. finishing at the Minster at approximateley 1.00 p.m.
Dewsbury Matters Local History Group created the trail and Batley and Dewsbury Towns' Management have produced an accompanying trail leaflet which will be available at the event. The event is also supported by the 'Belonging to Dewsbury Campaign' which focuses on creating a sense of community cohesion. The trail is for all members of the community to find out about and celebrate the heritage of the town.
The Blue Plauque Trail has been devised by members of the Dewsbury Matters group to encourage people to walk around the town and enjoy its fine historic buildings. Each plaque tells the significance of that building to the life and heritage of the town.
Funding for the plaques and the trail leaflet was provided by Dewsbury Area Committee.
