Dewsbury Christmas Lights Switch On
Dewsbury On Ice!
To add to the festivities this season Dewsbury hosted an ice rink on Saturday and Sunday 2nd and 3rd December.
Many people came along to have a go and perhaps some of them went away with a bruise or two on their bottoms!
One gentleman who had not donned a pair of ice skates since 1956 showed that he had not lost his talent to twirl around the rink! Even our local MP Shahid Malik could not wait to have a go after he had helped to switch on the lights.
This year the lights were switched on in style by Dewsbury Rams player Francis Maloney and deputy Mayor Councillor Jean Calvert along with Shahid, our town crier Laurie Gilbert and not forgetting dear old Santa!
The children from Chickenley school had created a replica model of Dewsbury Minster over 6ft tall and 6ft wide. This they carried out to the stage and illuminated just prior to the real switch on event. The model which is made from willow withies and papier mache can be seen displayed at Dewsbury Minster this Christmas.
To add to the entertainment circus performers The Flaming Nutters thrilled the crowds with their fire eating antics and classical performers Ti Amero had the audience entranced with their powerful musical renditions.
