Dog Walking Litter Patrol in Wilton Park Batley
Rita and Bill Woffenden, who have lived close to the park all their lives and have both been regular visitors since they were children, say it is their way of giving something back to a place they love and enjoy.
"It is a beautiful park. When you are walking around it every day, why step over rubbish when you can pick it up," said Bill.
The couple and their dog Jenny spend up to two hours and walk around two miles in the park each day. Using litter pickers and bags supplied by Park Warden Barry Daly, they can fill a bin bag daily with the rubbish they pick up as they stroll around the park's woodland area, formal beds, lake and sports facilities.
"We have a set route because we know whereabouts in the park most of the rubbish is going to be," added Bill.
Park Warden Barry, who would like to see the formation of a Friends group for the park, commented: "They are doing a fantastic job. I'd love to see more people like Rita and Bill getting involved in the park."
