Flames and Fountains for Dewsbury
An atmosphere of excitement filled the air as thousands of people gathered in Dewsbury Town Centre for a magnificent evening of entertainment.
Flames and Fountains, a free event staged by Kirklees Council to herald the regeneration plans for North Kirklees, saw a firelight procession, aerial acrobatics and the transformation of Dewsbury Town Hall into a giant fountain.
French street theatre company La Salamandre passed through the streets of Dewsbury spreading their rivers of fire and thrilling the spectators with their fiery swirling batons.
The group led the spectators from Foundry Street, Corporation Street, along Northgate and into the market place to experience the finale where Dewsbury Town Hall was bathed in multi coloured lights as British performers, Avanti Display turned the building into a giant fountain.
An acrobat cast theatrical shadows over the town hall whilst being beautifully serenaded to the tune of Moon River by one of the performers.
A living statue sent jets of water streaming into the air to create a giant fountain and for the grand finale the town hall became the backdrop to a magnificent firework display.
Kirklees Council are now running a competition to find the best photos of the event with a prize of a year's free gym membership!
