Shopwindow Art Trail in Dewsbury Town Centre

"Terms and Conditions" is the title of the Art Exhibition that students from Dewsbury College have created in empty shop units in Dewsbury Town Centre. The display was launched on the evening of the 8th May by Chair of Dewsbury Area Committee Councillor Eric Firth. It will run until 31st May.

The aim of the exhibition is to bring visual vitality and encourage more footfall into the town centre as well as stimulate discussion and provide a showcase for local talent.

This exhibition is a collaborative partnership between the Batley School of Art and Design, Dewsbury Area Committee (who have contributed funding towards the project), Batley & Dewsbury Towns' Management and town centre landlords, Ravenhill Estates and the Adhan Group who have all worked together to make it happen.

Richard Gray the course tutor said "We were approached by Ravenhill Estates who own the Princess of Wales precinct in Dewsbury and Towns' Management to initiate an exciting project to rejuvenate the town centre and create positive interest in the town centre by using it as a showcase for the talent of our students who are all local and study locally at Dewsbury College. It's bringing their work into the public domain in a very real and direct way so that the people of Dewsbury, rather than seeing empty shops, see the fruits of students' labours".

Andrew Sloman, Towns' Manager for Dewsbury said "I think this is great for the town centre. The students work looks fantastic. It's great to see such talent from local people! We would like to thank Ravenhill Estates and other town centre landlords for allowing us to use their units for these display purposes."

Eric Ruddle, Senior Estates Surveyor for Ravenhill Estates commented "It has been a pleasure to work with Viv and Andrew from the Towns' Management team and the college to bring this project to fruition. We are certainly in agreement with any project which enhances the town centre and brings more footfall for our tenants."
