Crow Nest Park
Crow Nest at the present day is an extensive and attractive park on the outskirts of Dewsbury, graced by a mansion with an attractive Georgian frontage.
Led by Kirklees Culture and Leisure Services several new planting schemes have been initiated in the park recently to add to the existing impressive formal planting. Added to this people can visit the newly renovated Wildflower Garden which is also situated in the park.
Mohammed Farooq (Faz), the park warden, has been working in Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury, for the past three years. He has now been joined by Barry Daly who covers Wilton Park in Batley, The Raikes in Birstall and Millbridge Park in Liversedge; Diane Clifford, who is responsible for Ravensknowle Park, Beaumont Park, Norman Park and Fearnside Park, all in Huddersfield; and Balvinder Sidhu who is based in Greenhead Park, Huddersfield.
Their role includes removing graffiti, picking up litter, dealing with anti-social behaviour, maintaining equipment, working with groups who use the parks and liaising with agencies such as the police, the drug awareness unit and Kirklees Environmental Health Service.
They particularly want to develop activities and interests for young people in the parks and to organise events and inter-park sports competitions.
Recycling
Opposite the entrance to Crow Nest Park is the recycling facility where all pruned materials are shredded and stored for future use as mulch.
The grass and herbaceous area behind the main building mirror the planting scheme in the Market Place in Dewsbury Town Centre and create an attractive courtyard setting.
The conservatory in Crow Nest Park is open to the public and is an area of calm and tranquillity for local people to enjoy.
