Dewsbury Ring Road Floral Display Project

A new floral bed has been installed on the Dewsbury Ring Road; sponsored by the Dewsbury Rotary Club.

Whilst attending a seminar for the Yorkshire In Bloom competition, it was suggested that an ideal way to market your town and to announce the fact that your town was part of The Yorkshire In Bloom Competition would be to create a floral display which spelled out "Your Town In Bloom".

As a team we took these comments on board and began plans to create a floral feature somewhere in Dewsbury. Our first task was to decide on where the feature should be situated. We chose a spot of land on the ring road, opposite to the Railway Station where many people come and go each day and where many cars pass on their way to or through the town. By situating the display here we felt that we could tell to as many people as possible that Dewsbury was part of Yorkshire in Bloom.

Our next task was to gain the permission of the land owners Kirklees Highways and to persuade Kirklees Culture and Leisure Services to plant the bed for us. This, both departments happily agreed to do as part of their contribution to the Dewsbury In Bloom project this year.

Dewsbury Rotary Club have kindly sponsored the stone which now sits within this flowerbed. Ian Leask, president of Dewsbury Rotary said "We are happy to have been invited to sponsor this feature. As a group we are keen to assist in projects which regenerate the town and make it more vibrant. We feel that the In Bloom projects contribute towards this regeneration by making the town centre brighter and more attractive.
